The concept of health choice is illusory if you don’t get all the information you need
Healthwatch Islington AGM 20 October 2015: Diverse Community Health Voice Project
Feride Kumbasar from IMECE Women’s Centre introduced the Diverse Community Health Voice project. The project aims to get the voices of the most marginalised members of society heard by mainstream agencies. Feride stressed that we don’t only gather information, we also provide information about accessing services. It is important to give as well as take. We want to empower the communities.
Feride shared some of the issues that were being raised by the project, for example around the disappearance of health advocates for members of marginalised groups. She added that the concept of choice is illusory if you don’t get all the information you need, or you don’t know how to navigate the system.
