Imece have organised Purple Day, the women’s film event as part of 20th London Turkish Film Festival, on 10 May 2015 at Rio Cinema. There were 178 participants and the event programme included, screening of ‘Last Stop: Salvation’, discussion panel and reception. 6th March, Mildmay Community Centre IMECE successfully hosted its Annual User Consultation on 6th March at Mildmay Community Centre. IMECE service users from broad range of services participated in the consultation and gave their views and suggestions about IMECE’s services and what IMECE should aim for the coming 3 years. Whilst users stated that IMECE’s services are very important to them and having specialist services in their mother tongue was a very valuable thing for them, IMECE’s services has good working processes and makes great impact on their lives, they also recommended that IMECE should have more services for service users, including more advice sessions and art/craft...

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATION

6th March International Women’s Day Celebration IMECE has organised a Women’s Day Celebration on 6th March at Mildmay Community Centre. The participation to the event was great and 38 women had attended and celebrated their day. The celebration commenced with an opening talk from IMECE’s Director welcoming all women attended the event and wished all participating women to enjoy their day. Lunch was served and traditional Turkish music was played and all participants danced side by side. PINHOLE Photography Exhibition by Young Refugees

1-3 October 2014 at Stoke Newington Library Exhibition Hall IMECE Women’s Centre organised a 6-week workshop for children and young people aged between 5 and 18. The purpose of the exhibition was to enable children and young people to discover photography, be active and creative whilst supporting children and young people’s mental, emotional and social development.  This project also enabled participants to depart from the digital world. Workshops consisted of several hands-on activities such as taking photos with the cameras created from shoeboxes and processing those photos in the dark room by themselves. Additionally, at the end of the programme an exhibition was held to exhibit both the handmade cameras and the photographs taken during the workshops. 27 children were presented Certificate of Achievement and also were given a frame with one of their own photographs produced. Visitors to the event were parents of the children who attended the course, local artists, Turkish, Kurdish and Cypriot Turkish Community members, local and community media representatives, local residents and Baroness Meral Ece from House of Common whom made the reception opening speech.
