IMECE, KMEWO, and LAWA celebrated International Women’s Day

5 March 2024- IMECE Women’s Centre, Kurdish and Middle Eastern Women’s Organisation (KMEWO), and Latin American Women’s Aid (LAWA) came together to celebrate International Women’s Day at Caxton House. This year’s celebration was infused with the theme of “Inclusion”, highlighting the importance of inclusion of Black and Minoritised Women, survivors of domestic abuse and harmful practices.

The morning began with speeches delivered by the Mayor of Islington Cllr Gary Heater and the representatives from each participating organization. Anıl Gokturk, IMECE’s IDVA Service Manager, summarized IMECE’s ongoing efforts in combating Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) while underscoring the indispensable role of women’s organizations in fostering change and support networks. Survivors of domestic violence shared their stories, shedding light on the resilience and support from women’s organisations.

Following the inspiring speeches, attendees enjoyed a delightful lunch accompanied by dance and music. It was a day filled with reflection, celebration, and solidarity, reaffirming our commitment to championing the rights and well-being of all women, especially those from minoritised communities.
